I found the DAC for the C2600 to be more resolving than the D100 it replaced in my system (I believe those were different implementations). Just the same, I like the Gumby far, far more than the C2600 DAC. And am really curious to hear a certain person’s comparison with the new Yggy. I went with the Gumby due to the slightly warmer comments. With the new analog section and updated filters— it may no longer be the case.
I know DS vs. R2R comes down to personal preference. For me there is a pressure/sharpness that is gone with the Gumby. I can crank it louder and longer. Occasionally there are styles of music that I think the C2600 DAC may be better at, but other times I think it is sheen/artifacts on those same tracks and I get fatigue. Psychologically, I want the label bit rate of the C2600, but don’t know that I could really tell (or anyone else past 22). I usually think I can tell the difference from red book, so maybe just one bit or two more on to the Yggy some day.
