My amp and preamp are connected to a Shunyata Hydra 2 which is a passive device and non-current limiting. The IEC connector fits very snugly into the socket so I know it wasn't any kind of wobble.

Not sure you can say that. If your power company sends a temporary drop (mine does), say a dip to 90 Volts or if there is a quick off/reset of power from a branch hitting a power line, all your stuff will probably not be able to offset that fast enough or at all............
