I think he is referring more to compromise as being a function of cost cutting. Seen it countless times. Turnaround guys come in with no dog in the hunt - no appreciation for how the brand came to be, no interest in the business the brand is in, no interest in even owning anything the company offers. They're generally there to make shit happen on spreadsheets.

Many a brand is a shadow of its former self afterwards.
