Denon X4000 for the top of the line Audyssey MultiEQ XT32 (Pro compatible I believe) which offers the best room EQ correction resolution in a consumer system.

It also has SubEQ which handles multiple subs and LFC which tries to prevent subwoofer vibrations from escaping to the next room/apartment.

You can always add better power amps if you need it with the pre-outs on this AVR.

It's under 1k now because the replacement model is on the way - that would be about 1.4k new but will support the new Dolby Atmos decoding. If you don't plan on using Atmos, I expect the X4000 is probably the best bang for the buck now.
