I have also heard both arms in real life but not in a direct A/B comparison. I always found that the older arm didn't keep me engaged while the newer 3D arm kept me in my seat for long periods of time. To my ears, the newer one has a smoother sound that gets rid of the slight fatigue I got from their older arm. Of course, they were in different systems so there were many other variables as well but the digital files seem to capture the difference I heard. At the end of the day, the only appropriate source is your own ears.
