I was a Radio/Electronics Officer with Shell Tankers for 25 years. Some of the early Marconi marine transmitters I would have loved to heave over the side to join the Titanic - a 100 watts of feeble power output to cover the world!
Later on sense prevailed and we had installed 2kW output transmitters, praise be to common sense.
