So is the vibration coming from the floor, or the speakers, or the current rack you are using? The reason I ask is that it is best to first eliminate the source. If it is floor vibrations, a wall mounted shelf is a great solution. If it is the speakers themselves or the rack, then adding mass ( a lot!) is the most important thing. Sand is a great mass element. The material the shelf is made out of should also have high mass, be well damped, and fairly stiff so as not to create another resonance. So I'm postulating that the construction and dimensions of the shelf may be more important than the material it is made from. For example a Boos block 3" thick maple will be very different than a 1" solid oak board, irrespective of the material it is made from. Catch my drift?
