R-core transformer is better than common toroidal:
1. less noise.
2. standing current (rest current) is minimal.
3. absence of headache with phasing of power plug (in case of toroidal transformer you always need to play with connection of power plug into wall socket).
so finally R-core is more preferable for Sound.
some kind of toroidal transformer is better, for example - swedish Noratech, but it is more expensive.
