I just went from a Classic 1 to the Prime and I'd have to say the biggest difference has to come from the 3D arm. I'd say the Classic with the metal arm is more neutral and the Prime 3D is a bit warmer, and has a bit better bass. Is it better? Hard to say but it's different. In my system I can use the additional warmth with leaner sounding speakers. I'd check with Harry at VPI, he's been clearing out some used demo arms.
