I ran two Rel Strata IIIs for a long time with my Maggie 1.7 and 3.7s. I thought they worked really well, were very fast and on the used market fairly economical as high quality subs go.
Because the Rel subwoofers connect in-line to the speaker signal path, instead of LFE, it was easy to set up dedicated left/right channel subs.
I tried to tune them to my room at the time (a large open loft with lots of glass and concrete surfaces), using a PC-based program and a radio shack SPL meter--terribly complicated and never felt I really understood what I was doing in spite of dedicating hours of reading on the subject. Finally through in the towel and purchased DSPeaker-Anti-Mode 8033 unit to great results.
