For stargazing you should aim for broader views and therefore lower magnifications. It is far more spectacular to view the stars, galaxies, clusters and nebulas with lower magnifications. And regarding high end eyepieces you can compare it to audio and to balance the quality of each component. But if you are on a quest and the ETX is only the beginning there is no reason, except financial, to get some high quality eyepieces, as a 300 dollar TeleVue Nagler, because you can use them with great result even on high end telescopes.
