I certainly looked at the 303 as a solution and on the surface it seemed like the move to make. In conversation with the folks at McIntosh I learned that the 303 has not been substantially changed since its introduction, which would be over 10 years ago ( 2008 I think ). My reasoning:
1. The new 255 has the latest thinking on amplification
2. I do not need the auto formers, my loads are 8 ohms, and my frequency ranges are very limited. ( 0 - 450 Hz. )
3. The amps are built with bass reinforcement in mind, exactly my application.
4. 250 wpc is way more than I need, 300 would be beyond way more.
5. The 303's weigh a ton
I also considered a 301 with a 152
