Bill, I have been thinking hard about going with the W4S music server and a DAC 2 via I2S. I own a W4S STP-SE preamp and it is a terrific value. I also have a custom DAC fed via I2S (unfortunately not in HDMI format) and can attest to the advantage of delivering the signal to the chip in that format.
The only two things holding me back are (1) it is FLAC only and I do not know enough to know if that is good or bad and (2) currently do not have rack space for it.
