Our society has grown very accustomed to it.
Back in the days when "men were men", one would fly through the windshield or the doors because there were no seat belts, airbags or any other safety devices in cars that weighed a few tons and crumpled like sardine cans from speeds one can reach on a bicycle... get up, limp to the side of the highway and yell "I'm OK!" while bleeding from every orifice...
