It's hard to go wrong with either, but I'd like to add another consideration to Serge's first-hand experience with both: you don't have to worry about leaving the 501s on for hours on end every day. I love the sound of tubes, but I find the convenience of a "tube sounding" solid state power amp even more compelling.
With tube power amps I always worried about tube life and heat. The 501s run cool and some days I have them on and playing all the time. I know I would not do that with a tube amp.
