I did all of the above and am rather happy with the results.
I heard the biggest improvement moving to first the 10" JMW arm and then again moving to the 10" 3D.
Note that updating to the 10" tonearm mount does require drilling new mounting holes on the plinth, but VPI used to have a kit that made it all rather painless; no idea if they still do.
