Don't bother with stands. Altecs engineers designed the cabinet the way they did for a reason. You can enjoy some benefit by putting them on pieces of wood just to decouple them from the floor, but other than that, it is more important, in my opinion, that you sit far enough away from them in order for the sound to gel and not sound like it is alternately coming out of one speaker or the other. These are not the best near field monitors. They are meant for 8-16 feet distance between you and them. Get ten or twelve feet away and you will not be thinking about toe in, raising them off the floor or much of anything else except listening.
