Let me pull a chair up to the fire and roast a marshmallow or two.
I have two pieces that are very close in age and used regularly. First the wonderful Zenith A-508-R am radio which was made ( I think ) in 1956. The Zenith resides on the kitchen counter and regularly gets tuned to news and sports.
Second, built sometime following 1954 is a pair of McIntosh MC-30's. These were rebuilt a few years back by Yves Beauvais, the former director of re-issues for Atlantic Records. Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, children of all ages, before your very eyes they will transform your musical experience. They, by my ears, are superior ( by a musical margin ) to any vintage McIntosh amplifier and give many more modern reference amps a run for their money. There is a reason that Chad Kassem of Acoustic Sounds uses a pair in his Blue Heaven recording studio. ( along with VTL )
