Dan....I've been enjoying the HD600 headphone with its Stefan AudioArt cable, and the relocated amplifier immensely. It's been a lot of fun, and the reward is even more fun. Once again I thank you for your help, you were very instrumental in the process. Maybe one day I can take the big plunge for the 800's...that won't be for a while but in the meantime I'm really enjoying the upgraded headphone setup.
As to the HD 580's.....I went ahead and parted ways with them today. A good friend at work latched on to the fact that I had upgraded my headphone rig and showed a keen interest in my "old" 580's. I figured it was time to let someone else enjoy them...he had gotten a not-so-good pair of phones for Christmas and got an instant case of upgrade-itus. I let them go for the price I paid, which was well below their value at the time. Shawn tried them out and was very pleased with the big improvement they gave him. Later in the day he proudly showed me how he had cleaned them up meticulously and had them in a sealed ziplock bag.
It was win-win............
