I have used Nordost cabling with my system even before I moved to McIntosh. Having said that, I don't have much experience with different cables and there is no doubt they make a different and I would daresay they are just as different as audio gear. Given that cables are the link between your components and your speakers, the only thing I would suggest is make sure its all the same make and brand between all the components...
I would think mixing would be like having different radial tires on each of the wheels of your car...
