Default Netflix - You

The show "You" on Netflix really caught me by surprise. I didn't even know it existed until they advertised season 2, and even then I glanced at the trailer and dismissed it as something I would like.

Then someone mentioned it to me and I decided to give it a try. Oh my God. what a show...it's a thrill ride!

I'm just wrapping up Season 2.

The premise is a guy who becomes obsessive over being in love...obtaining girlfriends and then "protecting" them from the world and anything that might get in his way. He's really smart and on some levels is very normal and even sweet. But of course, on another level, he's a straight up psychopath. I guess he's what we'd call a "sociopath" with violent tendencies. He's a stalker...but he shows a lot of empathy for people (especially kids, as you slowly see his past fleshed out over the two seasons).

What makes the show cool is how he narrates it, and you really get inside his head and can understand why he does what he does. Not that you would hurt anyone yourself, but you can see the rationalization process in what he's doing. You get inside the mind of a real sociopath and you get to know him very, very well.

Another aspect to the show is that it's not just his character development that is so vivid and interesting, it's others as well. His girlfriends come to life in a way that is very believable. You understand their passions, their fears, their history.

It's also a dark comedy and extremely funny, if you are a bit twisted.

The first season has very little "horror" aspect to it (blood), but the second is a bit...messier.

Highly recommended!
