I sort of had the same impression of Bangkok and Singapore as you did. Both places are unique.
The food in the region is fantastic, specially in Singapore, with a mix of all the cultures and cuisines around them.
In Singapore, did you go to the Adelphi? That's their "hi-end audio" mall, with lots of stores, right next to each other, with some LP/CD stores thrown in too. You would've gotten a better impression if you had spent some time there
In Bangkok, I've been to that mall, with the car and audio dealerships next to each other. Amazing!
