I use the Goat Hair brush (just like the one pictured in OP) to scrub my records before vacuuming them with a Record Doctor V. I have an old Hitachi DD turntable that I use for the scrubbing duties. I noticed a definite difference when I switched to using the goat hair brush vs. the fabric type brushes I had been using. The Goat hair gets down in the groove and gets more crud out while still being gentle enough to not damage the record surface.
