This could be a drive system issue. If your Prime has a rim drive the driver wheel may be a bit out of round, even a wee bit not visible to the eye will cause what you hear. Or a belt that is out of round or worn in a particular spot. That can be why you only hear the noise on the first part of a record; the vibration dissapates as it goes further into the platter.
