I finally got around to powering up my new pair of SW12's today. Frankly, for years I have been using JL Audio subs exclusively. I will of course not be replacing any of them either.

When it came to building my Esoteric/Aerial system, I was really on the fence whether to get the subs or not. I finally said what the heck I'll get them, even though they were on the expensive side. Keep in mind I was trying to design a system with some kind of budget in mind; really!

I previously posted the pics of the Aerial SW12's in my Esoteric thread. They look fantastic, and weigh more than the JL counterpart.

Well, about an hour ago I cabled them up, as stereo subs being fed by a WW XLR each. They are each on dedicated lines; the back of each sub has a plethora of adjustments via switches, and knobs. There is no ARO automatic room optimization that JL fans are accustomed to.

I preset all of the controls where I felt would be a good starting point. One super cool/practical feature is that each sub comes with it's own remote; of course I only need one, just aim at the sub desired and make the changes you want right from your listening position.

I started playing some Jackson Brown - Very Best Of (Re-mastered) Holy Cow the subs were amazing! How could this be, I haven't dialed anything in or tweaked any settings.

I grabbed the all metal remote, among many things it offers mute (turns the input to the sub off) great for a before & after A/B test. It can turn the visual display of the sub on, yes each one has it. Most importantly you can adjust the main gain, eq on/off and much more!

I listened for the better part of 30 minutes simply stunned. I lucked out when I bought these for sure; I'll be writing much more about these once the are positioned properly, dialed in, and spiked.

As I said earlier, I still love all of my JL subs; but I have a new found affection for the Aerial SW12's.
I do not find any of this surprising Ivan.....those things are beautiful.
