For all it's worth mate, I did feel a bit like that with my PS Audio DSJ dac and was tempted to change however after 6 weeks or two I think something "clicked" and that tiny bit of edginess / brittle diminished noticeably in my system.
I would imagine the dac being the culprit not the player. DMP is known exactly for that -enhancing the SQ of mere redbook CD's to real heights.
My 2 cents anyway.
