Melco call it Direct Streaming Music (DSM), and also use a "ethernet purifier"
From their website:

- Direct Mode allows N1 to connect to Player without any Router
(Melco gives IP address to Player)

I am diverting a bit from the original topic, but with the Aurenders I agree that another network cable will not improve the sound, but using a Melco it might be possible if you directly stream to a DAC with DSM.
