Yep - a walkthrough of that technique and interesting azimuth thread here.

As regards the bubble shown in the first post, the Fieckert software 'Adjust+' discussed in the referenced thread also uses a similar bubble (which they will sell you.) I t believe its use is as gauge of relative azimuth position rather than the final reckoning.
