The speculation on other sites is that the glass (which is curved) is actually used to focus/reflect/direct the backwave right into significant absorption mechanisms they've distributed in the cups.
But now we have THREE versions of HD800, each with increasing prices, and I can't help but think of Morrissey singing "reissue, repackage, repackage". I'm not a fan of the HD800 so I'm skeptical these will take down Stax 009 or Utopia for me.
