There are many full range speakers that do benefit from adding a subwoofer. Many two channel audiophiles are still stuck with that mentality. I call them the "chamber music group". If you have ever driven YOUR system, or heard a system at full tilt the bass is usually rolled off to provide a smoother response. The majority of floorstanders cannot retrieve that last bottom octave and play it back realistically without distorting or sounding muddy. The Kodo drum is a prime example, you can hear the drum on most speakers but true full range reproduction will allow you to feel it also. Similar to if the drum were being played in the room with you listening.
