My wife is commisioned to take some super macro picks of an ancient vase for an archeologist with her D3x. They are trying to prove/expose a very detail map that is supposable on this vase. She has spoken with many different experts on how to get this shot. One was an engineer that helped design the Hubble Telescope. His opinion was to use a 20mm macro lens with an extension between the camera and the lens. Only thing I can figure is that an extension would put the lens closer to the subject and still focus. Problem is, of course it puts the lens further from the sensor in the camera.
Any one have any experience with this? They are trying to zoom in 64th of an inch.
