One problem with any rating system is that it's a composite of many areas of performance, weighted by the individual reviewer. Even if the weighting is representative of the mainstream it will still deviate from a significant percentage of listeners, such is the range of subjective opinion.
The fact is, no two speakers with the same performance rating will ever sound exactly the same, regardless of the level of precision in the rating system.
As a reader of HFN, I don't really have a problem with the rating system, but I also don't take it too literally. The devil is always in the detail, and hopefully the review will include that detail.
