Without starting an audiophile forum debate regarding the merits of cables...of which there are already far too many. I just wanted to help prod your logic to do the Phantom some justice by saying that perhaps 6-12' of cable from amp to speaker is very different from 6" in a speaker. I was a old out for a long time with my Krell system, and have never been disappointed that I finally gave in and upgraded to good cabling. I've found Cardas and Siltech to work very will with Krell, and seem to have similar sounds tastes as you. I recently switched over to a set of Wywires and have been thrilled with them.
Enjoy...
