I can't speak to Bryston, but our local club did a MC/Cary shootout a few years back.
Cary pre + Cary Amp was awesome!
Mc pre + Mc amp was also awesome!
Any deviation or combination was good, but not even close to as revealing.
As I recall - McIntosh C500 and dual 275's in mono
And Cary SLP 98 and SA-200.2? I know the Cary pre is right :-)
I think that the input/output impedance is off just enough between brands to smear thing up a bit.
