On the other hand with no human life at stake and no need for safety, it would be fun to watch the AI battle it out on the race track full tilt. I imagine the algorithms would be very effective at not only overtaking but blocking as well. Perhaps instead of the "car" doing the driving, the AI can be in the form of a robot driver. Then you still have the two fundamentals of car technology and a driver. In any case, no doubt it will be experimented with heavily since it is already happening and the computer guys won't rest until they beat the human driver with an autonomous car.

It would be very cool to see just how far the engineers could push the sport without dealing with human limitations and endurance. Everything about the car is already measured and recorded so it’s not a stretch at all. Human reaction times are in the order of 0.1 sec or more, easy to beat with a closed loop system.
