ARC and Mac have different house sounds. I would audition an all ARC system and compare overall presentations with that of Mac. If you like the ARC sound then the preamp swap would likely be a positive step. I like the ARC sound and the more pieces I got the better i liked my system.. Mac sound is great and many love it, I am not one of them. I love the look of them and have gone in every once in to a audio store absolutely determined to like it and within two minutes... usually much less I am heading out the door.
What JPGR4BLU said above sounds right on point about combining them.
