It took me a while to find a good matched quad set of 1960s Sylvania Black plates for my SLP98 preamp, with two spares. Bought a six set. While they sound great, love them, I kind of want to save/store them and find a filler daily use set.

A 7N7 is an exact duplicate of a 6SN7 and is much cheaper. It's a 9 pin tube, so you just need an adapter to plug it into an octal socket.
Of the new production tubes, the Psvane 181 Tii grey glass is probably the best I've heard. It's mislabeled - it's not actually a 181, it's really a plain old 6SN7. They are also expensive.
