I also use the etherRegen, but i'm using it for optical to ethernet conversion. Near my main switch I have a cheapo startech converter. I feel that there are some benefits to running optical to simply provide galvanic isolation. Not sure what I hear is directly attributable to the ER, the optical isolation, or my AQ diamond ethernet cable, but I do think there was an increase in resolution when all of that is implemented.
