I was seriously intent on buying a MQA hardware enabled DAC. After a couple months of research I decided to go with a non-MQA player that focuses more resources (engineering/parts) on playing DSD and PCM well. It's my understanding that Tidal can software-unfold MQA whereby some benefits of it can be experienced. I'll buy a MQA DAC later of good quality (but much cheaper than the TotalDac d1-twelve) to play around with and hear what my ears tell me.
