Well, I would like to share my own experience regarding subject.
I have vintage vynil player of German brand ELAC, model Miracord 50H, made in 1974.
I've bought twice cartridge to replace original one from ebay like this (i.e. replica):

As you may see it costs 56 USD (

Alternative originals?
Well, I saw
used ST-344-17 for unbelievable 200 USD plus delivery.
In result I ordered 1 JICO cartridge, I got it few days ago and now I have pleasure again to listen my small collection of vynil plates.
