Default Speaker spiking question

Hi all

I'm interested in knowing what people have done when they spike their speakers. I have a bamboo wooden floor in our lounge and have recently spiked my B&W 802D2's.

I now get a sense of greater detail than when previously on the rubber feet which is nice, but sometimes it seems a little bright on some recordings. To protect my floors I have used a 10 cent piece under the spikes (about the size of a quarter). I was wondering whether this was contributing to the higher top end given there is probably no real dampening?

Thanks for your help!
