Craig.......The Orange VT1000 tube tester is a reliable and easy to use tester. You should be able to identify your bad KT88 without a problem.

Sorry to hear the MC2301 required service after a power tube failure. I am surprised the Sentry Monitor circuit did not shut the amplifier down before any damage could occur. I had a power tube issue with my right channel MC2301, and fortunate for me the Sentry Monitor circuit shut the amp off immediately with no damage. I tested all eight KT88's and replaced the the bad one. I recall that Ivan had a power tube failure in one of his MC2301's that shut the amp down. Unfortunately he tried energizing the amplifier with the failed tube still in place which caused some resistor failures which required service. $h!t happens. I hope you are back up and running soon.
