Installed at the panel gives complete coverage before a surge reaches the protection at the outlet, it really is one of the least expensive things you can do, and talking hundreds of dollars to install versus exposing thousands to mayhem - I don’t want to be on an AllState Commercial!
Remember, you also have refrigerators, computers, tvs...etc and they too are not cheap to repair/replace.
