Thanks for quick response Harlequin. I ordered probably the last factory matched set of Tung Sol Black Plate 6550's there is left today. I plan to keep them for quite a while before I use them. The other sets of GE 6550's I ordered should be here later this week. The set I installed yesterday I have about 14 hrs on now. Quite a ways to go till they settle in. However I can say even at this very early stage they are the most lucid sweet live and gorgeous sounding I've ever heard my 40 sound. Already they blow my cryo'd Sovtek 6550's out of this galaxy. I'd characterize them as being several notches better than the SED Winged C tubes which were the best I felt before these. What I would recommend to use for tube damping on the 6H30 power supply tubes to replace the OEM damping rings would be the superb Herbies Audio Lab RX damping rings. They would work and probably damp even better than the dual rings. I have them on all my power amp tubes (16) with superb results. I just never got around to trying them in the Ref 40 power supply even though I have a set of rings for both the 6H30 and 6550 tubes. One crisis at a time. All I can say is you are spot on tho with the GE 6550 tubes. I think soon I'll also obtain a set of the Sylvania to roll in at some point too.
