I have several DACs, but only one of them is Roon endpoint. To use the others with Roon, I had to setup dedicated Mac Mini Intel NUCs. But to connect all my DACs to Roon, I need to buy more small computers, which is what I want to avoid.
To try Raspberry Pi, I bought one from Fry’s for $30. After 30 seconds hardware setup (which is to insert my otherwise useless 4G microSD card, then connect ethernet cable and power adapter), and 5 minutes absolutely automatic software installation, I had a brand new Roon “endpoint”! Simply amazing!
I did not notice any SQ degradation. I am enjoying WiFi transferred, CD quality FLAC upsampled to DSD 128 with it now.
The next step for me is to buy several more, then all my DACs will become fully functional Roon endpoints
