I think Grant already answered this hours ago. It's marketing and packaging.
"Any of our IC's can be used as sub-cables. Its not as if there needs to be a specially designed sub-cable, but I also understand there are companies that market and package them this way."
If you want to eliminate a companies cables because of "marketing strategy" rather than technical merits that is a personal choice. There are multiple cable companies with Audioquest and WW being amongst them that will sell you one of everything.
