Yep, pups need at least a few days or a week to get acclimated to sleeping alone. I do recall sleeping on the floor next to the crate for 3 nights when we got our pup some years ago. He would wake up and cry and all it took is some comforting and he'd fall right back asleep. After that he loved his crate and was not happy when we got rid of the crate 6 months later as he was fully house broken and getting large.

We had the same thing with our English Setter. When she cried as a pup, she sounded just like a human baby. It definitely takes time for them to get used to being alone at night, especially when they are so young. Our breeder wouldn't even let the pups go until they were 12 weeks. An eight week old needs a lot of tender care.
Enjoy your new addition to the family. Dogs are great. NOTHING can compare to the love and loyalty you get from a dog.
