You are absolutely correct, the diameter of Deep Sea is 44mm while the Sea-Dweller is 43mm. Not a lot of difference at 1mm.
However, to get the added depth rating, Rolex increased the overall thickness, made the crystal much thicker (6mm I believe), and made it domed rather than perfectly flat. In fact, it’s quite noticeable from the profile view. It’s a small detail, but because of the dome, you have to look dead-on at the dial or the view becomes distorted. With the Submariner and the Sea-Dweller, you can view it from nearly any angle.
Either is beautiful and I’d gladly take the first one that comes up for grabs. Given a choice though, I’d pick the Sea-Dweller.
