Great idea to re-purpose that Denon!
Seems you and I had similar ideas over the past few days.
I had a Denon DVD-2910 DVD/CD/SACD languishing in its box in the spare room closet and decided to put it back in service.
Even though it's an older unit, the 192kHz/24-bit Burr-Brown DSD-1791 audio DACs provide a fantastic listening experience. It will process DVD-Video, DVD-R & DVD-RW, DVD+R & DVD+RW, and Video CD along with SACD, DVD-Audio, CD, CD-R & CD-RW, MP3 and WMA CD-R & CD-RW.
I think I'll have some fun learning how to burn DVD audio and experiment a little.
It IS nice to have choices!
