How many of you guys like Sporting Clays

I am really enjoying sporting clays recently. There are a couple of clubs near by that are open to the public, and they have some nice courses.

On a nice morning, there is just nothing better than strolling through a sporting clays course with some friends, and hitting the clays.

Not sure what a sporting clay is Chuck. Hunting? Golf course?:scratch2:

I used to live for it. It was my life, that and live bird shooting.

Since being in CA I haven't even seen a gun...

Sporting Clays is a shotgun sport. 50 or 100 targets. You go from station to station on a course, and a clay target throwing machine is set up to throw the orange clays in different directions and you have to hit them.

Here is a more detailed explanation.

Great sport. Almost as good as actual bird hunting (quail, dove, pheasant, etc.).

MC352 06-24-2010 08:20 AM

I agree with that.

The problem around here is bird hunting is getting pricey at the private preserves.

As an indication how silly our gun/hunting laws are in NJ, it is illegal to hunt doves. Which are the best tasting of all games birds. Yum.

I was fortunate to grow up out west and we hunted everything on our own land (several hundred acres). Luckily, when we sold it, we keep the hunting rights for our family and get back out every year or two for a week of dove, quail & pheasant hunting.

That is great that you get to still go out there.

I have a friend that went to North Dakota last year, and had a great time.

I go to a place in NY state, called TMT Preserve. A great place, and the guy that runs the place is great to deal with. 250 acres.

Maybe one day we can get an AudioAficionado Bird Day put together.
